Strengthening Emergency Medical Response Systems with the Introduction of a New Medium-Sized Doctor Helicopter

Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province held the '10th Anniversary Event for the Introduction of Jeonbuk Doctor Helicopters' at the Wonkwang University Hospital Doctor Helicopter Pad on the 15th.
On the 15th, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province hosted a ceremony at the Wonkwang University Hospital helipad to mark the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the Jeonbuk Doctor Helicopter. The event was organized to reflect on the achievements of the air ambulance service over the past decade and to present awards to individuals and partner organizations that contributed to the advancement of the emergency medical care system.

The program included a 10-year operational performance report, an introduction of the new medium-sized AW-169 Doctor Helicopter, an awards presentation for meritorious service, and a celebratory performance. During the ceremony, UIHELIJET—the operator of the Doctor Helicopter—was awarded the Provincial Governor Commendation for its operational support in air medical services.
Since its deployment to Wonkwang University Hospital in 2016, the Jeonbuk Doctor Helicopter has transported approximately 1,630 severe emergency patients across Jeonbuk and neighboring regions, including Seocheon and Boryeong in Chungcheongnam-do. It has played a vital role in the regional emergency medical system by ensuring swift patient transport, particularly from island and mountainous areas with limited access to medical facilities.
Starting in July of this year, the new medium-sized AW-169 helicopter—offering superior maneuverability and safety compared to the previous model—was introduced to the fleet. This upgrade is expected to significantly enhance both patient transport capabilities and on-site emergency response.
Lee Won-taek, Governor of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, stated, "The Jeonbuk Doctor Helicopter has played a crucial role in safeguarding the lives of our residents over the past 10 years. Leveraging the newly introduced medium-sized Doctor Helicopter, we will continue to strengthen our emergency medical response capabilities and build a more stable air ambulance system."
